This evening, the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce honored three individuals for their contributions to the music, agriculture, and equine industry at this year's Horses, Harmony and Agricultural Awards Banquet.
This year's honoree for the Hadley J. Castille Music Award is Earl Taylor due to his commitment to the community through music and public service. Taylor is the District Attorney of St. Landry Parish and a saxophone player who has performed with several Louisiana music legends, such as the Boogie Kings, Percy Sledge, Warren Storm and Willie Tee. Taylor plays venues across the state while representing St. Landry Parish's deep rooted culture of music.  Most recently, Taylor preformed at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans
The Agriculture Award has historically been given to individuals and organizations who prove themselves to be instrumental in the parish's agriculture industry. This year, the Chamber has recognized the St. Landry Farm Bureau Federation. St. Landry Farm Bureau has continuously supported the agriculture industry, not only through its services, but also through community initiatives that preserve and maintain a healthy agriculture industry across the parish.
The Equine Award was awarded to Francis Richard, who has achieved his Master Horseman status and has a long-standing history of teaching and achievement. Richard is a retired VoAg teacher, principal and Master Horseman leader. He has been an integral part of teaching and volunteering for youth and adult events throughout the state and country, representing the parish's equine industry.
