A company from Lake Charles is contracted to build a pipeline in Lake Arthur, but this is a job that can't be done in the rain. That means they'll have to leave their track hoes and welding equipment where it sits.

"Our job here is to protect the equipment, so I man up and we put officers, armed officers on location for the protection of the equipment for night and day," says Chris Manual.

For at least the next two days, Century On-Site security guards will be securing the site, since the pipeline workers went home because of the storm. They normally only work overnight, but it'll turn into a 24-hour operation.

"Being in law enforcement. and also every guy that works with me here is in law enforcement. we're always the ones we are there no matter what, so sitting out here on location in the middle of nowhere is hard sometimes, but it's nothing we're not expected to do," says Manual.

Sitting in a truck by yourself on a rural road is probably not the way most people would choose to ride out a storm, but these security guards are also Lake Arthur police officers who are contracted to do the work on their time off, so they are used to dangers that come with the job.

"A lot of these guys that I'm working with, especially here in Lake Arthur, they're off but they have to put off just because we're off. They're also on standby just because they are off if they feel it's safe to send their families off somewhere else they have to be here for the rest of the community and everyone else here," says Manual.
