The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced the closure of the 2017 spring inshore shrimp season in portions of inside waters.

The season will officially close in the determined area on Friday, June 23 at 6 p.m. The closure will occur from the eastern shore of the Mississippi River westward to the western shore of the Freshwater Bayou canal.

The closure, according to LDWF, is due to the increase in the percentage of small, juvenile white shrimp within these waters and the decision to protect the developing shrimp for future harvests.

All other state inside waters, as well as state outside waters seaward of the Inside/Outside Shrimp Line, will remain open for shrimping until further notice.
