Heavy rains to hit Acadiana later this week

Posted: Updated:

High chance that a tropical storm, likely 'Bret,' will develop in Gulf Monday/Tuesday. Will bring heavy rains & some wind to Acadiana Wednesday-Friday.

Will have a full briefing later this afternoon after I get a chance to look at the full suite of afternoon data. But, the bottom line-- it appears the threat of heavy rains will develop across Louisiana and Acadiana as early as Tuesday night with the threat of heavy rains continuing perhaps through Friday.

As for wind, I'm not overly concerned at this point that the winds will be damaging, say above 45 mph, but any system in the Gulf can get cranking, especially offshore.

Major concern at this point: I think it's going to be a multi-day heavy rainfall event as it's going to be a slow mover with the system meandering along the mid to upper Texas coast thru the end of the week, keeping us on the wet and sloppy side for several days.

Again, I'll have more later this afternoon. Stay tuned.
