Victim in Moss Bluff Elementary shooting up and walking

Posted: Updated:

The 7-year-old shot accidentally this week at Moss Bluff Elementary is now walking and doing well. Friday morning, the family shared a video of Gage walking on his own. The family also reports that he is now eating solid food, his dinner of choice, pizza.

In a post on Facebook post Thursday, the page Gage's Road to Recovery posted a video of the boy walking down the hallway of a Lafayette hospital after having tubes removed from his mouth. Gage Meche was able to walk past the nurse's station. He has since taken a third walk and the family says they are grateful for all the support.

Gage's father who wrote the post said mentioned one important element in the video, Gage's new light-up shoes. "When the nurse pulled out the hoses from his mouth he called me to his side and said 'daddy since I've been so tough, can I have some light up shoes?' I said of course."

Gage was shot in the abdomen accidentally after another child brought a gun to Moss Bluff Elementary in Calcasieu Parish on Tuesday May 16, 2017.

A father and son have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish held a press conference Thursday to give a full update on the investigation.
