Cool Schools: Opelousas High School

Posted: Updated:

Today's COOL SCHOOL is Opelousas High School!

The AP English IV/Dual Enrollment class of Opelousas High School completed many senior projects including a reproduction of Geoffrey Chaucer’s, Canterbury Tales Pilgrimage. Chaucer crafted a portrait gallery of Medieval society during the 1300s,  and  the class presented a modern day pilgrimage depicting modern personalities dressed in medieval attire. The students assumed the role of Chaucer’s objective narrator and wrote in his comparable heroic couplets, a prologue entry of the personalities they represented. As they journeyed around the streets near OHS, they enjoyed reading witty, colorful banter of their character’s speeches. Modern personalities represented included El Chapo, Justin Bieber, Snoop Dog, and even Miley Cyrus and Donald Trump. The students added their original and creative written work to Chaucer’s 17,000 lines of vivid poetry that still resonate and entertain modern readers six centuries later.
