The Abbeville Police Department is asking for the public's assistance locating three shooting suspects.
Police responded to the Days Inn Friday at 2:55 a.m. in reference to a shooting. A 47-year-old woman was found lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds to the leg and hip area, according to a spokesman for the department.
Surveillance video was recovered by police which shows numerous rounds being fired from a truck towards the victim.
The Abbeville Police Department has secured arrest warrants for three individuals involved in the shooting, charging them each with attempted second degree murder. The bonds on the warrants are set at $500,000 each.
Wanted are: Mortimer Cottrell Jr., 27, Josiah Cottrell, 20, and Timothy Cottrell, 17.
All three should be considered as armed and dangerous.
As a precaution, the almost-empty Abbeville campus of the South Louisiana Community College was placed on lock-down. It's spring break, so there are no students or faculty on campus this week, said spokeswoman Christine Payton. There are fewer than five employees on campus today, and the school's safety and security personnel are at the campus as a precaution, Payton said. The shooting scene is about two blocks away, she said. The security personnel will be walking those few employees to their vehicles so they can go home at the regular time, Payton said.
There are no reports of the suspects in the area, and no one at SLCC has seen them, she said. The lock-down was just a precaution, she said.
Abbeville police are on the scene of a shooting at the Days Inn hotel on the corner of Veterans Memorial Dr. and Lyman St.
