First tropical storm in the Atlantic forms, won't last into the weekend

Posted: Updated:

The first tropical storm of the 2017 season, has formed in the open Atlantic....but don't blink, this system shouldn't last more than one lonely day in the ocean.

Tropical Storm Arlene developed from a sub-tropical depression Wednesday, to a tropical depression Thursday morning, with an upgrade to storm status Thursday afternoon.

Arlene with 45 mph winds, is traveling northwestward near 25 mph and will likely be absorbed and dissipated by a much larger frontal trough Friday.

Arlene is the first April Atlantic Basin system since 2003, and its formation by no means is an indicator as to whether the tropics will be busy or not later this summer and fall.
