The city of Scott prepares for 5th annual boudin festival

Posted: Updated:
SCOTT, La. -

Preparations are underway in Scott for the 5th annual boudin festival set for this weekend.

The Scott boudin festival gives attendees a taste of the city's unique culture...

" We have to prepare more than what we usually sale," Dana Cormier of Best Stop Supermarket said. The business is a vendor for this year's festival.  "We already make about 3 to 4 thousand pounds of boudin a day. We have to make a lot of extra boudin to sale," Cormier said.

Mayor of Scott  Purvis Morrison said. "There's going to be a lot of boudin here. In the city of Scott we sale about 2 million pounds of boudin a year."

However, the festival cooks up more than just food. Thousands of people are expected to attend.

"Bringing in sales tax dollars," Morrison said. "Sales tax dollars are being spent. The festival raises money and gives back to non profits in the community. "
He added, "It's ironic for us to end up falling with the exit with most boudin places because we have the most boudin places in the world just sitting right here in Scott."

While the city and vendors prepare for the 5th annual festival they hope attendees take away more than just the food.

"A lot of people come out to this boudin festival because they want to know what boudin is all about," Cormier said.

She added, "It's a lot of hard work but we enjoy doing this because new people learning about  boudin and the cajun culture."
