LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team carries a season-best, five-game win streak into a three game series with conference foe Little Rock starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Gary Hogan Field. Game two of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, while the two teams close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.

All three games can be heard live on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM with Jay Walker and Jeff Schneider on the call. Live stats and video are available on RaginCajuns.com.

The Cajuns (23-14-1, 10-4-1 Sun Belt) have outscored opponents 32-6 during the win streak. Louisiana comes into the weekend unbeaten in its last 17 series including 13 conference series. The last team to take a series from the Ragin’ Cajuns was Little Rock (14-23, 6-9 Sun Belt) who won two of three games at “The Tigue” last season.

For the seventh straight weekend, the Cajuns will go with the rotation of junior left-hander Gunner Leger (7-1, 0.95 ERA) on Friday, sophomore right-hander Nick Lee (4-3, 5.36 ERA) on Saturday and sophomore lefty Hogan Harris (3-0, 2.58 ERA) on Sunday.

Leger has notched a victory in his last three starts and has combined to toss five shutouts on the year. The Lake Charles, La., native ranks third in the nation in victories, fourth in ERA, 15th in WHIP and 17th in hits allowed per nine innings.

The Trojans will counter with senior right-hander Cory Malcom (2-3, 2.58 ERA) on Friday, right-hander Ryan LeMoine (1-3, 7.85 ERA) on Saturday and left-hander Chandler Fidel (2-5, 5.23 ERA) on Sunday.

Offensively, Louisiana has raised its average to .275 with 66 doubles, 12 triples and 21 home runs. Senior Ishmael Edwards is on a team-best 13-game hit streak. Edwards is hitting .404 (21-for-52) with three doubles, two triples, two homers and 13 RBI during the streak.

Junior Steven Sensley has taken over the team lead in RBI (27) and home runs (5) as he’s raised his average up to .320.

The Cajuns hold a 52-20 advantage over Little Rock in the all-time series despite losing the series to the Trojans a year ago. Little Rock has won four of the last five meetings in the series, while Louisiana holds a 22-13 record in Little Rock. The Ragin’ Cajuns own the longest winning streak in the series winning 16 straight from 2006-11.

Little Rock has lost three of its last four games coming into the series. The Trojans dropped a 10-6 decision to Louisiana Tech in the midweek. Little Rock lost two off three at UT Arlington last weekend and currently is in fifth place in the Sun Belt West Division.

As a team, the Trojans are hitting .277 with 74 doubles, six triples and 29 home runs. Hunter Owens ranks fourth in the SBC in average hitting .369 with 14 doubles, a triple, six homers and 34 RBI. Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year Dalton Thomas has a .300 average with 13 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI.
