BROUSSARD, La. -

Multiple police agencies in Lafayette apprehended a male individual this evening at a Broussard gas station, who, police say, became suicidal while locked inside a stolen vehicle.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, Lafayette Police Department and Broussard Police Department responded to a car wash near a Texaco gas station in the 2000 block of Hwy. 90 in Broussard on a report of a stolen vehicle out of Vermilion Parish.

When law enforcement officers arrived, the individual allegedly barricaded himself inside the vehicle, then cut himself with a knife while threatening suicide, according to a spokesman with the sheriff's office.

The spokesman says, "Negotiators were able able to establish communication with him," which aided in the arrest of the individual by Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies and their K-9 unit.

The individual was transported to a local hospital for self-inflicted wounds. His name is being withheld at this time pending his release from the hospital.
