Southside High School construction hits home stretch

Posted: Updated:
Youngsville, LA -

Progress continues at the site of Southside High School in Youngsville. The school is set to welcome freshmen and sophomores this fall.

While there's still a lot of work left to do tonight symbolizes the beginning of the home stretch. The construction site for Southside High School has hit a milestone the AC was turned on for the fist time.

"It really signifies the point in the project where you start to move in what we might call the last 3rd of the project,"says William Lemoine, Lemoine Company.

This allows contractors to start applying finishes, fixtures, and wood materials that have to be in a temperature controlled environment.

"The system you see behind me is a water cooled chill water system, which is extremely energy efficient," says Craig Campbell, Associated Design Group.

Southside will be the first new Lafayette Parish High School since the late 1960s and will have all the amenities of a 21st-century high school.

You're seeing collaborative spaces for students to use, you're seeing science labs, you're seeing state of the art technology, and equipment, and construction being used to go into this building," says Donald W. Aguillard, Superintendent Lafayette Parish School.

William Lemoine thinks there are bigger benefits aside from the obvious.

"We happen to believe that in order to be a great community in order to grow and prosper and bring new businesses in that we've got to reinvest in our education and I think this is a signal of that investment," says  Lemoine.
