Eunice food bank experiencing shortages for the needy

Posted: Updated:

The food bank in Eunice is trying to keep their shelves stocked.
The shelves  are normally filled with hundreds of food items. however, the bank has nearly half of what they normally receive.

Right now they're still giving food, but it's less than what families normally get. The director says a lot of children are home during the day since it's Spring Break. This is increasing the food bank's needs for families.

"Children are out this week and the families are looking for extra food for them," Mary Ann Guillory of the Eunice Food Bank said. "At school sometimes they maintain with breakfast and lunch, but now it's onto the parents."

"It's heartbreaking to me to know we cannot (meet the needs). I know we can't provide all their needs, but I would like to see them go through this week being out of school and still be nurtured," she added.

If you'd like to make a donation, the food bank is open Monday , Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
