A Florida woman has died from injuries she sustained in an accident on Interstate 10 earlier this month.

Amanda Ceruti, 24, of St. Petersburg, died earlier this week from injuries sustained in the April 2 accident, state police said.

Leslie Migues, 28, of New Iberia, is accused of fourth-offense DWI, disabling an ignition interlock device, driving the wrong way on a one-way highway, reckless operation and five counts vehicular negligent injury. The investigation is not complete, but now that Ceruti has died, the charges may be upgraded, state police said.

The accident happened on the Atchafalaya Freeway shortly before 4 a.m., state police said. It happened near the Whiskey Bay exit, where there are no shoulders.

Ceruti was westbound in a Toyota. The investigation is not complete, but it is believed that Migues, who was driving eastbound on the westbound side of the bridge, hit Ceruti head-on. Also involved in the accident were Thong Tran, 61, of Houston, who was driving a pick-up truck, and Mario Peralta, 45, of Laredo, Texas, who was driving an 18-wheeler rig, state police said.

Ceruti died at a Lafayette hospital. State Police records indicate Migues also was transported to a Lafayette hospital, but no information on the extent of her injuries was available. State Police records indicate that Tran and Peralta also were injured, but their injuries were believed to be minor.

Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the St. Martin Parish District Attorney, state police said.
