A Napoleonville man has been arrested on warrants out of New York for bank robbery, Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said.

Joel Zsebehazy, 33, whose last known address is on Highway 1 in Napoleonville,  was booked on a federal fugitive arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, as well as warrants out of Batavia, New York, charging him with grand larceny in the third degree and robbery in the third degree.

Zsebehazy was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Sheriff’s personnel converged on a home near Belle Rose where the suspect was working as handyman.

The warrant were issued in connection with a bank robbery in Batavia, New York in December of 2016, in which he allegedly made off with $10,275.00.  At the time of the December robbery, the suspect was on parole for a prior bank robbery.

Sheriff’s officials received information that indicated Zsebehazy had been in the area for the past three weeks.

The sheriff said Zsebehazy is no stranger to law-enforcement as he possesses a 33-page criminal history.  The suspect has previous arrests for third degree assault, multiple drug distribution counts, drug possession counts, second degree felonious assault, third degree robbery, grand larceny as well as multiple parole violations, the sheriff said. Zsebehazy also has additional arrests for second degree burglary, violation of protective orders, theft, as well as numerous other misdemeanor and felony arrests, the sheriff said.

Zsebehazy was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where he was booked and incarcerated.

The state of New York as well as the Western District Federal Court of New York have already begun the process of extraditing the suspect to the state of New York to answer to the charges.
