Hunter Plake, who grew up in Baton Rouge and now lives in Lafayette, has advanced again on the NBC talent show, "The Voice."

Last night, the singer advanced to the top 12 on the program. He garnered high praise from the judges on the program, who are performers from various pop genres.

"Guys!!!!! WHAT!?? This is so unreal! Thank you so much for believing in me I'm so glad that you guys dig my approach to music," Plake wrote on his Facebook page last night. "I'm so excited for the future! Let's go!"

According to the program's website, Plake was influenced by church and music from a young age by his family.

"His dad was in the Christian rock band Brother Brother and he's been leading worship since he was 14," the website states.

Plake's father, Billy "Bud" Plake, said his son is doing really well on the show, but still needs support from his Louisiana family.

Plake will perform again on the program Monday night, and will need votes to advance, his dad said in a telephone interview. He said Hunter currently is the top iTunes seller ever at this point in the program's progression.

Plake has been living in Lafayette since last fall, when his Baton Rouge home was flooded, his dad said. He said Hunter and his wife had been married only a couple of months when the flood hit.
