Smoke-free Lafayette Coalition seeks smoke-free ordinance

Posted: Updated:

Smoke-Free Lafayette Coalition is asking the Lafayette Consolidated Council to support the health of all members of the workforce through a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance. This ordinance would protect members of the work force who are still at risk of secondhand smoke while creating safer, healthier environments for everyone who lives, works, and visits Lafayette.

"I think a smoke-free policy is one of the greatest things that could ever come to this area. It will allow a lot of performers to start coming back. Many have stayed away because of the smoke," says local musician, Wayne Singleton. "And being a cancer survivor myself, it would help musicians like me to maybe live a little bit longer and have an easier night performing."

"As a business owner, I am very excited about the re-introduction of the non-smoking ordinance for bars in Lafayette. I thank the leadership of our city council for the opportunity and the potential for Lafayette to follow in the footsteps of over 3,000 other municipalities," says Gus Rezende, Owner of Jefferson St. Pub. "I want my beloved Lafayette to be the  next city in Louisiana to take action and offer every patron, employee, and musician with a better place to work and have fun."
