A parish grand jury has indicted Joseph Delahoussaye in connection with the September 2016 slaying of a North Dakota woman.

Delahoussaye, 43, now faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Rachael Alexander, 29. Delahoussaye remains in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Back in September, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies said they were called to a home on Georgine Street at about noon by a report of a suicide. They found the body of a woman, identified as Alexander. A preliminary investigation surrounding the death caused detectives to question the incident as a suicide and continued the investigation as a homicide.

After that investigation, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division say they arrested Delahoussaye and booked him with murder.
