Lafayette lawyer raising concerns about water quality

Posted: Updated:

William Goodell, a lawyer in Lafayette, says LCG, LDEQ, and LDOTD have not given him public records that he requested a month ago. The documents give more information about water quality testing of the Chicot Aquifer.

Goodell is filing a lawsuit against Union Pacific and Southern Pacific railroad over toxic waste he says may have leaked into the aquifer. More information on that lawsuit here

"Lafayette has some very good water, and I would hate to see Lafayette's water become tainted by a rail yard and its former operations," said Goodell.

LCG said their attorney is diligently working to prepare the documents for Goodell. They said his public records request was broad in nature and produced thousands of pages of documents that went back to the 1950s. Their attorney has been in constant communication with Goodell and told him when to expect the documents.

Goodell said the attorney told him to expect the documents five days from now.
