LAFAYETTE, La. -

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office said that Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope surrendered himself to the care, custody and control of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office earlier this morning.

Officials said Pope turned himself into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center this morning without incident and in compliance with an order from Judge Edwards.

Pope was sentenced by Judge Edwards to serve seven days in the parish jail on a contempt of court charge and is being processed at this time.  He is expected to be released immediately following the installation of a monitoring device that will allow the Sheriff's Office to monitor his compliance with the court order.
