On Saturday, the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge will conduct Legal Observer training.

Legal Observers attend protests and demonstrations to safeguard protesters exercising their First Amendment rights and act as independent third parties should disruptions. They provide neutral accounts of the events after the fact, often with photos and videos, to make sure that police conduct themselves lawfully, according to Louisiana Progress and Equality Louisiana.

The training begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. at the Law Center.

"As we grapple with the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile, it is imperative that we maintain accurate accounts of peaceful protests and police presence," a joint press release from the groups states. "We must be able to resist any attempts to sow confusion or shift blame by maintaining and providing unquestionable documentation. The only way to guarantee that this happens is to do it ourselves.
