A Mamou man is facing attempted murder charges after an ATM was stolen with a backhoe.

Police say they received a call at 3:45 a.m. on August 10th from Savoy Hospital ER in reference to the Citizen's Bank being robbed.  A security guard from the hospital reported the backhoe turned down Cherry Street, which is behind the hospital.

The officer who responded found the backhoe, which is when the suspect allegedly starting firing rounds at the patrol car.  Chief Robert McGee says he was then called in, and officers surrounded the backhoe which was left at the intersection of Cherry and Country Lanes.  Evangeline Parish deputies and State Police were also called in to help secure the area.

Police say they found twelve shell casings that were shot out of an AR 15 Assault Rifle near the backhoe.

On Monday, Dejuan Guillory was charged with Theft of the Backhoe and bond was set at $75,000.

On Tuesday, after speaking to Guillory again, officers charged him with Attempted Murder (for allegedly firing at the officer), Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property over $150,000.00, Criminal Damage to Property over $800.00, Criminal Damage to Property – $400.00 and Felony Theft  - $100,000.00.
