The man who was killed in a St. Martin Parish hit-and-run motorcycle crash Tuesday morning was a retired federal customs agent and U.S. marshal.

Marvin DeSelles, 69, of Broussard, was on his motorcycle heading eastbound on La. 96 near Windy Hill Road when a 2013 Nissan Altima crossed the centerline to pass two vehicles - including a Chrysler 300 - and slammed head-on into Deselles' Harley-Davidson motorcycle, David said.

DeSelles was ejected from his motorcycle. The Chrysler 300 ran over DeSelles and left the scene of the crash. DeSelles died at the scene.

Family members said DeSelles was born and raised in New Orleans and served three tours in Vietnam. He and his wife Antoinette moved to Broussard after losing their home during Hurricane Katrina.

DeSelles was an avid motorcyclist for more than 40 years. He and his wife were about to celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Klifford Moss Jr., 24, of Lafayette, was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on counts of vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, limitations on passing on the left and having an expired inspection sticker, David said. Moss is believed to have been impaired at the time of the crash.

Troopers are still searching for a green or gray Chrysler 300 with a handicapped tag hanging from the rearview mirror, David said.

Anyone with information on the vehicle is asked to call Troop I at (337) 262-5880.
