Zoo of Acadiana officials are on the lookout for an exotic bird on the loose after a bird theft earlier this morning. Zoo officials say an Indian Ringneck was spotted emerging from a burning SUV after the suspected thief crashed during a police chase. The bird an Indian Ringneck. It is described as a "large-looking parakeet" and is sky blue in color. Zoo officials believe the bird is still in the Broussard area. If you see it, call the Zoo of Acadiana at 337-837-4325.
Two other birds were stolen during heist. A parrot was recovered after zoo officials say it dragged itself out of the burning vehicle. That bird suffered a broken leg and injured eyes. Another parrot, an all-green Senegal Parrot, is missing and presumed dead by zoo officials.
The suspect in the theft, Yongcun Su, died in a local hospital from injuries suffered when he crashed his SUV on East Main Street in Broussard during a high-speed chase. The car caught fire after the crash. Police say they arrived at the zoo as Su was speeding away.
