A suspect in a bird theft from the Zoo of Acadiana is dead following a high-speed chase. Broussard police say 35-year-old Yongcun Su stole three birds from the zoo's veterinary clinic before speeding away in an SUV. Police followed Su until they lost sight of him when he crossed the railroad tracks on East Main Street. A few moments later, Su crashed in a curve, and the SUV caught fire. Su was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Police say they recovered two of the stolen birds and returned them to the zoo. Police are not sure of the third bird's whereabouts. A gun and a large amount of cash were also found in the vehicle.
