ZACHARY, La. (AP) - The Zachary City Council has approved hikes in municipal water, sewer and natural gas rates that will increase incrementally during the next three years.
By 2014, officials say residents would pay an average of $7 more per month for sewer service.
Gas and water rates are scheduled to increase an average of $6 and $9 per month, respectively.
The rate increases, approved unanimously by council members Tuesday night, were described as the first boost in utility rates for Zachary residents in at least 11 years.
City officials tell The Advocate the increased revenue will be applied to daily operation and maintenance of the systems and also to retire a proposed utility bond issue.
