Youngsville Sports Complex's Gates Opening Soon

The 70-acre, $15.4 million Youngsville Sports Complex will open in time to host youth baseball and tennis tournaments in the coming weeks, with a grand opening set for May 31. Despite the delay because of weather and building issues, the park will be completed and ready to go for the opening ceremony.

Youngsville voters approved a 1-cent sales tax in 2011 to pay for the park. The tax, which took effect one year ago, generates up to $2 million a year.

"Everybody we are speaking to is excited. Just the fact that we say we are going to be opening and we're gonna have a grand opening coming up. Everyone is excited and ready to get onto the ball fields and play." Tim Robichaux, Director of the Sports Complex, told us.

Trahan Construction workers will continue painting and putting other finishing touches on the park this week. The complex has 10 tennis courts, five baseball fields, six soccer pitches and four softball fields. It will be able handle sizable athletic tournaments.

Also this month, construction will begin on Phase II of the Sports Complex, as workers start laying the foundation for the Youngsville Community Recreation Center and an accompanying parking lot. This rec center will feature two indoor gymnasiums, two basketball courts, with opportunities for volleyball and pickle ball. The rec center will take about a year to build and cost $4.6 million.
