YOUNGSVILLE, La. (AP) - The city of Youngsville is on track to get a major upgrade with a 70-acre sports complex that will offer residents a place to play an array of sports.
Rick Garner, Youngsville's chief executive officer, says construction on the Youngsville Sports Complex could begin as soon as this week, but a groundbreaking ceremony has been postponed until Jan. 22.
The approximately $20 million project is being funded with a 1 percent sales tax that Youngsville voters approved in November 2011.
The project's first phase, which will be completed in December, includes 10 tennis courts; six soccer fields; five baseball fields with artificial turf on the infields; four softball fields; two two-story concession stands, for the baseball fields and one for the tennis courts.
