Throughout the You Gotta Move Goes Red program, we have focused on exercise and eating right. We haven't talked much about calories, but you may be at a point where you are thinking about "treating" yourself to something that doesn't fit into the "smart choices" category. Dawn Foreman designed this particular program because she knows that counting calories, fat grams, fiber or whatever can be very overwhelming but she wants to remind you that you need to keep in mind that what you put in you must work off when it comes to a "treat." For instance, six thin mints and a glass of milk is over 300 calories. It takes about an hour's worth of zumba to work that off. A blueberry scone and a frappachino is over 600 calories! You'd have to walk briskly for 2 HOURS to debit that from your "calorie bank." So does that mean you can never have chocolate or ice cream or yummy treats again? Absolutely not! Just make smart treat choices. First, eat three thin mints instead of six. Have a kiddie cone instead of a large ice cream. Share a dessert with friends if you are out for a special occasion. And remember, it's a TREAT. Those aren't meant to be daily occurrences. Stick to the lessons you have learned... Don't you feel better because you do? And decide if indulging is worth it. If it is, put in the work needed to balance out the intake. You've put in a lot of work to get to this point. Keep going. We believe in you!
