A recovering Jennings police officer shot on June 23 in the line of duty is now sitting up without assistance, his department says Wednesday.
"It is with great pleasure that we post up a picture (seen above) taken a few minutes ago of Sgt. Ricky Benoit and his wife Carolyn," the Jennings Police Department announced on its Facebook page.
JPD explains that Benoit's recovery has been difficult and that he has been transferred today to Touro Rehabilitation Center in New Orleans for continued treatment of his injury.
The department page boasts that Benoit has been a "warrior" during rehabilatation and expects Benoit to "conquer" his injuries completely. JPD also relayed a message of gratitude from Benoit himself.
"Ricky asked that we pass on his heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the thoughts and prayers that were sent to him and his family during this difficult time. Please continue to keep him in your prayers, and if you would like to help Ricky and his family, an account has been set up at St. Martin Bank in Jennings under his name," the posts reads.
JPD notes that any donation will be appreciated and will be applied to family during what is expected to be a long recovery in New Orleans.
