A world renowned artist, Diana Mendoza, is making only two stops in the United States. One is right here in Lafayette. She is visiting the Burley-Hipp Gallery and Interiors on W. Pinhook Road from 5:30 to 8:30pm Wednesday Nov. 4th.
This Peruvian painter is loved around the world, but she chose Lafayette for a stop because the town captivated her and her agent, Raul Mercier.
"She's Catholic and we have such a huge Catholic community here, it was kind of meant to be. It is an honor." said Gallery owner Ryan Burley.
The gallery believes this event will bring in tourists. They have gotten calls from fans all over Louisiana, and even ouside the state. This event offers a rare chance to meet the artist and to view the 30 pieces up for sale.
Mendoza is most known for her depiction of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. She says her inspiration is her own children.
"The fact that I'm a woman and mother of 3, the family is a very important unit," she said.
Mendoza sees God in every day interactions between people and their loved ones. She sees that in Acadiana-- a possible inspiration for upcoming pieces.
