BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A series of workshops is planned for families of soldiers in the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is to deploy in January.
The purpose of the workshops is to share information with family members regarding programs and support available to them while their loved ones are deployed.
The workshops are for spouses, parents, children, siblings and other relatives, according to a news release from military officials.
The events begin Saturday and continue into next month.
Workshops will be held in Lafayette, New Iberia, Houma, Winnfield, Alexandria, Brusly, Abbeville and New Orleans.
Members of the unit are headed back to Iraq within the next few months. About 3,000 soldiers will be activated throughout the state and are expected to begin their mobilization in January 2010.
