LAFAYETTE, La. - The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team is slated to host the second annual UL Invitational this weekend at Cajun Courts. The tournament takes place Friday and Saturday with action getting started at 8:30 a.m. both days.
"This is our second event of the fall, and it comes after having three weeks to regroup from the Auburn Invitational," head coach Greg Harkins said. "The squad has been working extremely hard with conditioning both on and off the court.
"We have also been testing the lineups this fall season for doubles. I have seen a lot improvement over the last few weeks and I know the girls are looking forward to getting back on the courts."
The UL Invite field includes the host Cajuns, Arkansas State, McNeese State, La.-Monroe, Lamar, Northwestern State, Southeastern La. and Southern Miss.
"We've got a great group of regional schools coming in this weekend," Harkins added. "These teams bring a lot to the table and will keep the competition level high throughout the tournament."
There will be both singles and doubles competition as the UL Invitational will feature a compass draw. Matches will be played at both Cajun Courts and the adjacent Bourgeois courts. Draws for the weekend will be available Thursday evening on Ragincajuns.com.
"Fans are going to see a variety of tennis," Harkins said. "There will be plenty of action on both days, and I hope that tailgaters for the football game stop by and check things out."
