Imagine this, you wake up at night to find an intruder crawling around your bedroom floor. That's what a Lafayette woman says happened to her early Wednesday morning. This person not only says she locked her door but she lives behind the walls of a gated community, Floridian Flatts.
Police say it didn't stop a prowler from climbing in her home through a window.
"At first I was like, 'oh man, the neighbor's cat got in the house.'" She says, "but then I could sense something else."
This woman says she woke up early wednesday morning to find a stranger in her bedroom.
Since the incident happened, she's asked us to hide her identity. We'll call her "Vanna" as she recalls what happened.
"It took me a couple seconds then I saw someone on all fours next to my bed," she said. "I screamed like hell."
'Vanna' says that's when the intruder made a run for it, grabbing a pillow to hide his face.
She says the scary part is not knowing what to do.
"You have this plan in your head that you're going to beat them up." She says, "but all that goes out the window when it actually happens."
"The victim was able to scream and also get to a phone to contact 911 immediately." Cpl. Paul Mouton says, "which scared off the perpetrator."
Cpl. Mouton of the Lafayette Police Dept. says 'Vanna' did everything right, but police haven't found the suspect.
"We think he forced his way in through the rear window." Mouton says, "and that's the same place we think he exited out."
'Vanna' wasn't hurt in this incident but she fears this man may come back.
"It happened to work out for me this time." She says, "but I'd like to take a self defense class."
Police say they're looking for a white male about six-feet tall who was wearing sweat pants with gray stripes and a dark long sleeve t-shirt.
