GRETNA, La. (AP) - The trial of a Kenner woman accused of
drowning her newborn baby in Lake Pontchartrain has been postponed.
Days before jury selection 23-year-old Ciara Craig was set to start, the judge pushed her second-degree murder trial back to Dec. 6. The move was because the
prosecution said more time was needed to evaluate Craig's mental capacity.
In July, Craig changed her plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of insanity.
Craig is accused of giving birth at home and later placing the baby in the lake. Craig says the baby was stillborn. Her attorney Morris Reed Sr. has likened her actions to a "burial ritual."
