BAYOU BLUE, La. (AP) - Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre calls it one of the worst cases of elderly neglect his deputies have ever seen.

A 30-year-old Bayou Blue woman arrested Thursday was booked with cruelty to the infirmed. April Johnson's arrest comes after deputies called to a house last month found a 69-year-old woman living in a filthy 10-foot by 16-foot wooden shed attached to the home. The room smelled of urine and rotting flesh, Sgt. Lesley Hill of the Lafourche Sheriff's Office told The Courier of Houma.

The elderly woman was identified only as a relative of Johnson. She was treated for sores that exposed bone and tendons. If Johnson is convicted, she would face a possible 10 year prison sentence.
