A witness shared his video of a Lafayette car chase on I-10, that police say involved Steven Myers and missing Florida teenager Ashley Lyon. When the chase ended Lyon's was stabbed more than 10 times, according to Florida deputies.
"I never expected to see that. I was just leaving for work and I thought it was going to be an ordinary night. Out of the blue I see a truck on fire, and it's just speeding," Douglas Fremin told us.
Ashley Lyons, 16, went missing June 11th in Valrico, FL. A national alert was issued stating she was with Steven Myers, 41, a convicted sex offender. Lyon's parents said she didn't have her bi-polar medication and could be very vulnerable.
Wednesday night in Iberville Parish a cashier at a Grosse Tete truck stop recognized the pair after seeing them on "Nancy Grace" and reported it to authorities. A chase began shortly after, and at 10:15 p.m. Lafayette Police were notified the pair was about to enter their jurisdiction.
When Fremin was on I-10 by Louisiana Avenue, he said he saw more than 15 cop cars chasing the speeding driver.
"All of a sudden I see the truck and the cops right behind me," Fremin said. "I pulled out my phone and started video-taping."
Lafayette Police officers were working with State Police to stop Myers.
""When the vehicle entered our jurisdiction we had already deployed tire spikes and had successfully deflated five out of the six tires," Lafayette Police Department PIO Cpl. Paul Mouton said.
Mouton said Myers continued to drive with the deflated tires until he came to a halt at University Avenue.
Fremin said he saw the truck on fire at the Louisiana Avenue exit.
"I'm not sure what else was coming, but if you look at the video there was gas or something coming out of the truck that was spraying all the way until the chase ended at University," Fremin said.
At the University Avenue exit, Myers allegedly stabbed himself before asking police to shoot him. Instead police said they used a K-9 and a stun gun to take him into custody
"Officers then moved up to the vehicle where they discovered the missing teenager," Mouton said.
Florida deputies said Lyon was stabbed more than ten times by Myers, eight times in the front and twice in the back.
"I just pray that the girl is okay," Fremin said.
Lyon is currently recovering at a Lafayette hospital in stable, but serious condition.
Myers is facing attempted murder and possibly more charges.
