FORT POLK, La. (AP) - The Army says that Fort Polk and the Joint Readiness Training Center are shutting down Friday because of the expected winter storm.
A hundred miles away at Barksdale Air Force Base, a spokesman says officials will decide before dawn whether to close the base or to begin shifts late on Friday.
Fort Polk spokeswoman Kimberly Reischling says workers considered key and essential will report by noon, four hours later than usual.
Officials say there could be up to two inches of snow and sleet in the area, and the accumulation could break branches and power lines.
Fort Polk's child care facilities will be closed Friday, and morale and recreation events are canceled until noon Saturday.
