Fourteenth Judicial District Court Chief Judge David Ritchie swore in Richard Wilson late Monday to replace Judge Wilford Carter.
After serving 21 years on the bench, Carter is stepping down on Oct. 31. His term expires on Dec. 31, 2014.
One of the first black judges elected at the 14th Judicial District Court, Carter is the district's longest-serving judge. Wilson was appointed as a three-month temporary replacement by the state Supreme Court, although the judgeship will not be on the ballot until April. As a temporary replacement, Wilson cannot run for the position.
