BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) - Willis-Knighton Health System, a major northwestern Louisiana health care provider, has purchased the former Bossier Medical Center in Bossier City for $3.7 million.

The Times reported that Willis-Knighton will offer nonprofit services and a conference center for health meetings at the building.

Bossier City Council members twice turned down previous bids from Willis-Knighton and sold it to Christus Schumpert Health System for $18 million in 1999.

Christus Schumpert operated the hospital until 2002. Independent specialty programs used the hospital until 2009. In 2011, the hospital was put up for sale.

The hospital was built with tax dollars in 1996 and operated as a public hospital until voters approved the sale in 1999.
