MONROE, La. (AP) - A 24-year veteran of the Monroe Fire Department has been selected as the interim chief to replace Jimmie Bryant, who recently was named the city's chief operating officer.
The News-Star reports Terry Williams joined the fire department in 1988 and served in multiple capacities, including firefighter, operator and training officer. He currently serves as administrative assistant to Bryant.
Bryant will officially retire from the fire department Friday. He will take an extended vacation before returning to the city to serve as the new chief operating officer.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo announced Williams' selection as interim fire chief Wednesday during a news conference at the Monroe Public Safety Center.
