WESTLAKE, La. (AP) - Westlake singing sensation Josh Ledet is among the Top 6 performers on this season of American Idol and family and friends in his hometown this week are hoping to push him into the Top 3.
Members of Team Josh will host a viewing party Wednesday at the Westlake Multi-Purpose Complex, where friends and family will gather to watch the performance and cast votes afterward. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The City of Westlake donated the facility, a big screen and surround-sound system to watch the show. Food and door prizes will be provided as well as free Wi-Fi for fans to use to vote after the show. The results will be broadcast Thursday on Fox at 7 p.m.
If Ledet makes it to the final three, American Idol and its cameras will come to Southwest Louisiana to film his return home.
Kaylen Fletcher, public relations manager for the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the publicity would be priceless. She said Ledet's nationally televised tutorial on how to eat a crawfish, highlighted during a segment of the show, is still being talked about.
"The attention has been great and he's helped put Westlake on the map. We're now nationally known," she said.
Fletcher said it's at least the fourth week that Ledet's family has hosted the viewing party, giving the town the opportunity to come together and support his run on the show.
Last week, she said, about 300 people showed up.
"We're all just really supportive of Josh," Fletcher said. "We've always been a really tight-knit community and his appearance has meant so much good publicity for the area. I just know he's going to make it to the Top 3. His talent is unbelievable and people feel so good after hearing him."
