LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Diagnostic Labratory reported positive West Nile virus activity in Iberia Parish surveillance mosquito pools. No human cases have been reported in Iberia Parish, but health officials ask residents to be on alert and protect themselves against mosquito bites and mosquito borne diseases.
The state department of Health and Hospitals has already confirmed 23 cased of Human West Nile Virus in Louisiana. Ten are neuroinvasive which is the most severe presentation of the disease. The cases are in East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes.
