HOUMA, La. (AP) - Mosquitoes in a Terrebonne Parish subdivision have tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Jessie Boudreaux Jr., owner of Cajun Mosquito Control, tells The Courier, that the samples were collected June 6 in the Oaklawn subdivision. Boudreaux's company was contracted by Terrebonne Parish to control the pest population.
The virus was confirmed Friday and results were released earlier this week.
Many people bitten by a mosquito with West Nile will show no symptoms. But the virus can cause flu-like symptoms in some, and more severe nervous system disease in others.
