WEST MONROE, La. (AP) Members of Community of Christ Church say they will rebuild their sanctuary that was destroyed when fire engulfed it.
Ouachita Parish fire investigator Curt Meachum says firefighters battled the blaze for more than seven hours Wednesday. The first report of the fire came shortly after 5 a.m. from a caller who reported seeing flames some 30 feet in the air.
No one was injured.
Meachum says the State Fire Marshal's Office used accelerant-sniffing dogs to determine if arson was involved, but the dogs did not detect anything. What sparked the blaze remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, Pastor Mary Hoff says the congregation likely will attend services with a "sister" congregation in Eros as they consider their next step. Before the fire, she says, the church had been discussing buying land and moving further west.
