Casa Ole' Caliente 5K Run for THEIR Lives hosted by LOPA will be held at Casa Ole' of Opelousas at 8am.
The Relay For Life of Broussard and Youngsville will be held on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 6pm, with Opening Ceremony at 7pm. This event is family-friendly, and each of the 12 teams will have on-site fundraisiers, including great food. 12th annual "Be a Heart Starter" training day will be held at the Cajundome on Saturday, April 14, 2012. This free event is open to anyone middle school-age or older who wants to learn how to "Be A Heart Starter!" Two two-hour sessions will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Advanced registration is requested by calling 877-242-4277 or by logging on to www.heartstarter.org. Each participant will receive a "Be A Heart Starter!" T-shirt, a training course participation certificate, a pocket CPR instruction card and more.
A "Break the Silence, Stop the Violence" rally is planned to help build bridges between the community and police. The free event will begin at 11 a.m., April 14, in Donald Gardner Stadium on South Union Street in Opelousas. Food, music, entertainment, booths and more. A Wii game system, two bicycles and an iPad will be given away. Free T-shirts. McGruff the Crime Dog will be there, as well as demonstrations by OPD's K-9 division. There will be a live performance by as Cupid. Guest speakers. Concession stand will be selling hamburgers and drinks.
22nd Festival Des Fleurs Garden Show and Sale is being hosted by Ira Nelson Horticulture Center at University of Louisana at Lafayette at Blackham Coliseum, 2330 Johnston Street, Lafayette on April 14 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event will offer a wide selection of plants, garden books, pottery, tools, art, gifts, and ornamental garden pieces. Eductionsl displays by the Bonsai, Orchid and Daylily Societies. Judged show by the Lafayette Garden Club. Children's activities.
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church crawfish fundraiser will be April 14th from 11am-2pm at 400 Camellia Blvd. 3 pounds for $15. Pre-purchase tickets, email us firstname.lastname@example.org or call 234-4848.
LARC's Cafeteria to Benefit from Crawfish Cook-Off. Judice Riders will hold their annual fundraiser to benefit LARC on April 14 at Tookie's Lounge, 1600 Ridge Road. $25 entry fee per team. Deadline to enter will be 10am the morning of the event. Teams will cook onsite beginning at 10am, and pick-up will be at 1:30pm with judging at 2pm. Trophies . Bowls of crawfish etouffee can be purchased for $1 per bowl, "lucky dogs" (bbq sausage), beverages, tickets for door prizes, 50/50 card game and a live auction. There will also be a DJ. The Art Walk is April 14 and is A & E 's 3rd birthday! Hope you can see the new show. The city of New Iberia will have a trolley for everyone to see all of the art on Main Street and to the gallery! Stops will be at the Shadows, Bouligny Plaza, Café des Ami and A & E Gallery. Music and food vendors will be up and down the street.
Child Abuse Prevention Month and Pinwheels for Prevention, will be holding "Steppin' Out to Prevent Child Abuse," a walk, pinwheel planting and community awareness event on Saturday, April 14th at 10:00 am at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville. Individuals and families are encouraged to attend to show their support. Volunteer at a local child abuse prevention program. Jada Young benefit 7-3PM Saturday on Mill St. behind baseball complex 5K and events. Jada is China Young's daughter. China was the victim of domestic violence. She was shot 4 times and died Feb. 22nd due from complications. She was pregnant with her daughter at the time of the shooting. Sherry Yocum, China's mother, is now raising her grand-daughter as her own and is coordinating the event along with Misty Hays. Sherry began a petition to change laws regarding restraining orders. Bayou Vermilion District (BVD) as they celebrate Earth Day on April 15 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. to help inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment. Green demonstrations, presentations, exhibits and tours, kid's crafts, fact scavenger hunt, cooking demonstrations and food for purchase. Live music will be provided in the Performance Center from 1 - 4 p.m. by the Lafayette Rhythm Devils as well as in the Village throughout the day by Goldman Thibodeaux as well as Cajun Trio
