Nation wide statistics show the net wealth of white households is 20 times more than black households and 18 times more than hispanic households.
Senator Mary Landrieu held a hearing Thursday in Washington D.C. to address this problem.
She says the key to fixing this issue is to create more minority owned businesses.
Nearly six million minority owned business pump about 1 trillion dollars into our economy every year.
Studies show the down spiral of America's economy has made the wealth gap even wider.
Landrieu believes more minority owned businesses will help fight this growing problem.
"Helping minority communities to access greater wealth will help the strength of our overall economy," said Landrieu.
