PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - The West Baton Rouge Parish School Board
has approved $1.8 million in cuts aimed at helping offset an
expected budget shortfall during the 2011 fiscal year.
Superintendent David Corona tells The Advocate that 17 teacher
positions and five paraprofessional jobs will be eliminated through
attrition.
In addition, Corona said two school-based administrative
positions will be filled by school board central office
administrators.
Corona said the school system will be on the hook next year to
pay an increased amount of retirement contributions to employees,
while receiving less money from the state per student in Minimum
Foundation Program funds.
