Wayne Toups and Friends Spread Christmas Cheer

Wayne Toups and other well-loved local musicians spread Christmas cheer Tuesday morning. For the second year 97.3 The Dawg rounded up the group to sing to the elderly. The others 6 performers were: Dustin Sonnier, Kip Sonnier, Chalan Thibodeaux, Sal Melancon, Blaine Roy and Gordon Bradberry.

They went to Lady of the Oaks, Garden View Assisted Living, and Camelot of Broussard.

They sang classics like "Silent Night" and "Jingle Bell Rock," funny hits like "Santa Looked a lot Like Daddy," and of course, Cajun songs.

"Oh it's very exciting, it makes me feel very happy and Christmas-y," said Oaks resident Bobby Rills.

Another resident, Janna Lefort, said, "I love Wayne Toups, definitely, I love his singing."

Many sang along, and one man, Charlie Washan, was so inspired that he broke into song, belting out gospel music, after the show was over.

The musicians intend to make this an annual tradition.

"They don't get out much or have people do this for them... music is a gift and everyone should have it," said Dustin Sonnier.
