BOGALUSA, La. (AP) - The new warden and chief deputy for the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office say the parish jail is in bad shape and downright insanitary in spots, but they plan to clean it up.

The Daily News reports that Warden Robert McDaniel and Chief Deputy Mike Haley were brought in by Sheriff Randy Seal, who was sworn in July 2.

Haley says that sanitation, supervision and maintenance at the jail don't meet his standards.

He and McDaniel say they've added staff and have someone on duty 24 hours a day in a previously unstaffed area that oversees all four cellblocks.

McDaniel says about 15 inmates have had to sleep on the floor. He's ordered 200 new mattresses - replacements for the ones already there, and enough to get inmates off the floor.
